Opis projekta: Kako bi se osigurala sigurna i stabilna opskrba proizvodima i uslugama temeljenih na biomasi, a istovremeno održala eksploatacija biomase unutar ekoloških granica ekosustava, jedan od ključnih strateških prioriteta EU-a je promjena tradicionalno linearno ustrojenih sektora bioekonomije u održivi kružni kompleks bioekonomije s niskim udjelom ugljika i visokom dodanom vrijednošću. U praksi to zahtijeva međusektorsko usklađivanje i koordinaciju složenog spleta različitih strategija i politika.

Abstract: To ensure a secure and stable supply of bio-based products and services while keeping biomass use within environmental limits, one of the EU's key strategic priorities is to shift traditional linear bioeconomy sectors to a sustainable, low-carbon, high value-added circular bioeconomy complex. In practise, this requires cross-sectoral harmonisation and coordination of a complex set of different strategies and policies. To formulate an integrated guidance framework for the transition to a sustainable and circular bioeconomy, this research will identify the key economic, social and environmental drivers and impacts of bioeconomy development in EU countries, as well as the economic importance and structural characteristics of the bioeconomy in EU countries. Particular attention will be paid to exploring the key limitations of mono-sectoral approaches, models and strategies for bioeconomy development, but also to holistically linking contemporary sustainable development concepts in the context of addressing the development challenges of the bioeconomy. On this basis, the main objectives of this research relate to the proposal of a more effective framework for the sustainable development of the bioeconomy and the establishment of an integrated monitoring system to measure the performance of bioeconomy sectors in EU countries.
