Groundwater is essential for various uses, including drinking water supply, agriculture, industry, and tourism. However, it faces significant threats such as overexploitation, pollution, and climate change. The primary objective of the project is to achieve and maintain a good chemical and quantitative status of groundwater by ensuring sustainable usage practices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A central innovation of the BLUE RECHARGE project is the introduction of a <strong>\u201cBlue Credits\u201d<\/strong> system. This economic mechanism encourages public and private stakeholders to engage in sustainable groundwater management. Participants earn Blue Credits by taking part in aquifer recharge and conservation activities, which can then be traded on a dedicated market. This market-driven approach promotes the long-term sustainability of groundwater resources by creating financial incentives for positive environmental actions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project fosters collaboration among public authorities, research institutions, and private companies to develop and implement the Blue Credits system. By integrating scientific research with practical economic strategies, BLUE RECHARGE aims to establish a robust framework for groundwater sustainability that can be replicated in other regions.
