The Croatian Controllers Association (UHK) was established at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Rijeka, in December 2008 and officially acquired legal status on 19 February 2009 through its registration in the Register of Associations of the Republic of Croatia.
Professor Neda Vitezić, PhD, Full Professor with Tenure, was elected as the Association’s first President. She was also the initiator and head of the postgraduate specialist university programme in Controlling, which has been offered at the Faculty since the 2006/2007 academic year. As the first professional association of controllers in Croatia, the establishment of UHK marked an important milestone in promoting knowledge, professional skills, and the implementation of controlling practices in business. Since its founding, the Association’s members have actively promoted the role of controlling in the management of companies and public institutions.
The Association was established to advance the controlling profession and strengthen the competencies of controllers. Its principal objectives include:
- promoting continuous professional development and education in the theory and practice of controlling and related disciplines;
- publishing a professional bulletin featuring the latest developments relevant to the profession;
- fostering cooperation with Croatian and international institutions;
- providing advisory services to the business community; and
- carrying out activities in accordance with the Association’s Statute.
Over the years, the Association has organized numerous lectures by Croatian and international experts, educational workshops, and professional visits to companies with well-established controlling functions. Since 2011, it has also published the professional bulletin Kontroler.
In cooperation with the Faculty of Economics and Business, the Association organized the first Controlling and Management Conference (KiM) in 2025, bringing together leading experts from across Croatia under the motto “The Power of Data, the Strength of Decision-Making.” The strong interest in and success of the inaugural conference confirmed its potential to become a traditional annual gathering of controllers and managers. The next edition of the conference is scheduled for autumn 2026.
