University Undergraduate Programme in English

The Faculty of Economics and Business Rijeka offers the Undergraduate University Study Programme in International Business, which lasts three years (six semesters).

The International Business study programme has been recognized by the international organization European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) and awarded the EFMD Accredited Programme status. This accreditation represents an internationally recognized mark of quality for study programmes in the fields of management, economics, and business economics that meet high standards of relevance, internationalization, and academic excellence.

Approximately 150 programmes worldwide hold the prestigious EFMD Accredited Programme label, placing them among a select group of high-quality international programmes in the global academic environment.

Upon completion of the undergraduate university study programme in International Business, students obtain 180 ECTS credits and receive a diploma confirming the academic title University Bachelor (baccalaureus/baccalaurea) of Economics (abbreviation: univ. bacc. oec.).

What Students Learn and Develop

The International Business study programme enables students to acquire and apply knowledge of the key principles of international business, as well as to develop a high level of understanding of the global market and international business environment.

Teaching is delivered through innovative methods that encourage student civic engagement and the adoption of ethical and responsible business behaviour appropriate to the digital age. The programme provides in-depth knowledge and understanding of fundamental theories, practices, and techniques for managing international business activities.

Innovative and content-rich teaching methods, collaboration with domestic and international companies, study periods at partner universities abroad, international internships, and extracurricular activities provide a strong foundation for the development of future professionals who will operate in a demanding international business environment.

The acquired knowledge and skills can be classified into five key categories:

  • learning skills

The competencies acquired include the ability to analyse, synthesize, and develop solutions to problems in economics and business economics, develop critical thinking, engage in independent learning, integrate knowledge, adapt to new business and social environments, and creatively solve business problems.

Competencies Developed During the Programme

Business Knowledge

Graduates are able to:

  • interpret fundamental models, concepts, and principles of business economics
  • explain entrepreneurship, organization, and business practices at the national, regional, and international levels
  • distinguish basic categories of business operations in management, finance, marketing, entrepreneurship, and international business

Thinking Skills

Students learn to:

  • collect data and propose well-reasoned solutions to less complex problems in business economics
  • apply basic statistical and quantitative methods
  • critically analyse economic concepts as well as quantitative and qualitative information for business decision-making

Communication

Graduates are able to:

  • present information, ideas, problems, and solutions orally and/or in written form
  • develop, prepare, and present solutions through teamwork

Business Ethics

Students learn to:

  • recognize and analyse ethical challenges in the business environment
  • formulate conclusions related to relevant social and ethical issues in international business
Career Opportunities and Further Education

The qualification of Bachelor of Economics enables graduates to enter the labour market directly and perform demanding professional work in companies, public enterprises, and public administration institutions, as well as in organizations operating in an international business environment.

Possible career positions include:

  • lower- and mid-level management positions
  • professional and analytical roles
  • positions in the financial and banking sector
  • roles in public relations and human resource management

After completing the undergraduate university programme, students meet the requirements to enrol in a corresponding graduate (master’s) university programme.

Admission Requirements and Application Procedure

Candidates may enrol in the Undergraduate University Study Programme in International Business if they have:

  • completed a four-year secondary school,
  • passed the State Matura examination, and
  • fulfilled the requirements for enrolment in the first year of study.

Candidates who completed a four-year secondary school before 2010 are not required to take the State Matura examination.

Applications are submitted through the National Information System of Applications to Higher Education Institutions (Postani Student).

Tuition Fees

Annual tuition fees for the International Business programme (taught in English) are:

  • €2,000 for students who are citizens of the Republic of Croatia or other EU Member States
  • €5,000 for students who are citizens of countries outside the European Union

The enrolment fee is €58.20 for all students.
