    Doctoral Study Programme

Can you tell me whether my foreign degree is eligible for admission to your doctoral programme?

Please email us a copy of your diploma. The relevant University service will check its acceptability, usually within a few days.

This assessment applies only to eligibility for admission to the doctoral programme at our University and does not constitute formal recognition of your foreign qualification.

Any further administrative procedures related to your diploma may be completed at a later stage, after you have enrolled in the doctoral programme.

Do I need to have a supervisor from the very beginning? I do not know your professors. Can you help me find one? Can I choose a supervisor from outside your Faculty or from abroad whom I already know?

Depending on your research topic, we can help you establish contact with a suitable supervisor from among our academic staff or from outside the Faculty, even before enrolment.

Supervisors from foreign universities are highly encouraged, provided that they meet the requirements for supervisors stipulated by our doctoral programme, as defined in Article 13 of the Regulations. In such cases, you must also have a co-supervisor from our Faculty.

Are classes held every day? If not, how many weekends would I need to spend at the Faculty?

We have reduced the number of courses in the doctoral programme from ten to six:

    • three courses in the first year;
    • three courses in the second year.

Half of these courses are elective: one in the first year and two in the second year.

The number of weekends you need to spend at the Faculty during the first year varies between five and ten weekends, with classes generally held on Friday afternoons and Saturdays.

The courses are available at: Doctoral Programme in Economics and Business Economics – EFRI

Is a study period at a foreign university compulsory, and how can the Faculty assist me with this?

A study period abroad is compulsory for full-time doctoral students, but it is also strongly encouraged for other students.

The Faculty provides support and practical assistance in organising study periods abroad through the Erasmus programme or similar mobility schemes, such as CEEPUS.

In such cases, the study period abroad may be fully funded through Erasmus, CEEPUS or another relevant programme.

During the mobility period, students are expected to attend selected courses and/or work on their doctoral dissertation.

If your stay at a foreign institution is supervised by an academic from that institution, that person may subsequently become a member of your doctoral dissertation defence committee.

Further information is available in Articles 16 and 22 of the Regulations.

In addition to a study period at another university, you also require participation in international conferences and workshops and publication in internationally indexed journals. Does the Faculty help students cover these costs?

The Faculty regularly publishes calls for co-financing participation in conferences and workshops, as well as the publication of papers in academic journals, for doctoral students.

These activities may also be financed through research projects led by the supervisor or projects in which the supervisor participates as a member of the research team.

If such project funding is not available, the Faculty subsidises doctoral students’ research activities up to a specified amount.

I would like to complete my doctorate according to the Scandinavian model. What happens if I do not manage to publish the required papers on time?

This is not a problem. You may switch to the traditional monograph-format dissertation at any time.

I would like foreign professors, for example from the USA, Canada, Australia or other distant countries, to serve as members of my dissertation defence committee. Is this possible given the travel costs?

Yes. We have already organised dissertation defences of this kind.

The defence can simply be organised via videoconference, allowing international professors to participate remotely.
